4th Winter School on “Methodological Issues in Comparative Electoral Analysis”
Department of Sociology and Social Research, University of Trento, 21–24/02/2013

The True European Voter COST Action IS0806 offers for a fourth consecutive year an opportunity for young scholars to update and extend their analytical and substantive expertise in the field of comparative electoral studies.

The fourth Winter School on “Methodological Issues in Comparative Electoral Analysis” chaired by Professor Cees van der Eijk will address key issues in the methodology of comparative electoral research, and thereby advance the theoretical knowledge and practical knowhow of the participating young scholars. The Winter School will focus on the following topics:

  • Introduction to the TEV project and strategies of data harmonisation and comparative analysis
  • Varieties of regression and their place in electoral analysis
  • Dealing with endogeneity
  • The use of typologies and typologisation in electoral analysis

Some trainees who are working on the TEV data analysis will also attend an intensive course in HLM. The purpose of this course will be to identify and solve the particular problems that are inherent in the TEV data structure. A lecture about contemporary Italian politics and the impending general election is also planned. The trainees will also have the opportunity for bilateral discussions of (individual) research projects with the training team of the Winter School.
