WG1: The History of European Electoral Research (History Group).
The task of this Working Group is to identify the different traditions of electoral research in the participating COST countries and thereby promote a common understanding of the national research strategies and findings. This group will organize a common Conference and Training Schools on the variation in European approaches to electoral research.
The objectives of Working Group 1 are:
1. to review the history of European electoral research in the following key areas: a) the main topics that have been addressed and the main research questions have been asked; b) the methods that have been applied both in terms of data collection and data analysis; and c) the main findings that are reported;
2. to inform about the organisation and funding of electoral research, and the availability of data holdings, for each participating country;
3. to produce a bibliography of major publications, for each participating country.
Deliverables for WG1
1. In total 17 reviews of the traditions of electoral research, its organisation and main publications, one for each country.
2. An integrated report exploring the communalities and differences between the countries.
3. A Conference.
4. A scholarly book on the history of electoral research in Europe.
5. One Training School.
Milestones for WG1
Month 3: Working Group formed (late newcomers welcome)
Month 12: 17 country reports (Reviews) completed.
Month 19: First Training School for young researchers organized.
Month 24: Integrated report on the History of European Electoral Research prepared.
Month 25: Scientific Conference on the History of European Electoral Research organized.
Month 36: Book manuscript given to the publisher.
